Brian and Lila Thompson admit they were quite picky during their search for a comfortable easy-care home to enjoy their retirement, but they were relieved to discover Natures Edge at Buderim ticked all their demanding boxes.
The couple had searched from Brisbane to Hervey Bay for the ideal retirement village, and were losing hope they would find anything truly suitable; that is, until they drove up the Nature’s Edge driveway.
“It was a magic moment,” Brian said of the experience. “We just drove up there and looked up and thought, ‘Woo hoo’.
“I thought, ‘whoa, this is beautiful, this is gorgeous’.”
The natural rainforest outlook was an immediate standout, as was the landscaping, prestigious sandstone retaining walls and the variety of modern home designs.
Even then, however, the couple knew the estate would need to be pet friendly, it needed good caravan and boat storage, they even timed the drive to Buderim’s coffee shops (under 2 minutes) and their favourite beach Mooloolaba (8 minutes) before they felt truly convinced.
With those boxes ticked, they inspected the homes and put an immediate deposit on a home that was still under construction. And, six months down the track, they have no regrets.
“I get the impression when I wake up in the morning that I’m permanently on holidays, and this is a holiday house,” Brian said.
“Every time I drive into here I get a buzz, it’s truly encapsulated by rainforest.”
Nature’s Edge homes are mostly two-bedroom with a multi-purpose room that can be used as a media or craft room, office or personal library. All houses include stone bench-tops through the kitchen, bathrooms and laundries. Standard inclusions include solar panels, air conditioning, full height tiles in bathrooms and ensuites, and intercoms that provide security access to the front gates plus free calling and messaging to other home owners and the office.
Brian and Lila had migrated from Ireland to Australia in 2004 to be with their daughter who had met and married an Aussie and moved to Brisbane – and they have no regrets about their decision.
“She got a husband, and he got a wife and the in-laws,” Lila jokes.
After another decade of work – Brian in Real estate and Lila in hairdressing – their desires for an easy-care life in a caring and friendly community led them to only one place – Nature’s Edge.
Buying a home here also brings financial peace-of-mind: residents actually own their own homes, there are no exit fees and they don’t lose capital gains when they sell.
There is a choice of many different home designs, all clad in thermally efficient Hebel with certified eight-star energy-efficiency. Non-potable water is supplied free for irrigation or gardens.
Residents will also soon enjoy the benefits of a five-star $2.5m recreation centre, which is currently under construction. This state of the art building will feature a 20-metre heated pool, gymnasium, 30 seat cinema, dance floor, bowling green, arts and crafts studio, function rooms and more.
Nature’s Edge will eventually consist of 190 architect-designed homes, is located close to the Forest Glen shopping precinct, Coles and Woolworths supermarkets at Sippy Downs, great coffee shops, and the region’s biggest organic supermarket.
It has a fabulous community spirit and an exciting social calendar, all adding up to a carefree lifestyle in a secure gated community.
“We love this place,” Lila said.
Before Brian added: “We’ve been married 42 years and it’s probably the best decision we’ve ever made.”
