Its quiet, there is a delightful breeze and I am in the company of a lovely Canadian lady in her early 60’s and her husband who just turned 75 last week.
There is no typical home owner in Natures Edge Buderim; everyone has a unique story that has brought them to this part of the world, and this unique lifestyle community.
Norman and Patricia moved into Natures Edge Buderim in December 2015. Patricia is from British Columbia, Canada.
Norm is from Albany in WA. He met Patricia in 1972 while travelling through Canada, fell in love, married, had children and settled back on the Sunshine Coast in 2003.
Initially Norm “wasn’t too keen on moving to an over 50’s lifestyle community” because he didn’t know what he was getting into.
Although they knew they wanted to ‘downsize’ after 13 years on their ½ acre, they didn’t know much about the alternatives to a retirement village.
After finding out what they didn’t like, which was exit fees, they then started looking at over 50’s developments in the area and found they were different to the typical retirement model and all capital gain was kept by the home owner or the family.
As soon as they saw Natures Edge Norm was hooked but Patricia wanted to wait until the perfect house was built – which it was – and so they were both ecstatic.
The rainforest and the setting was the first thing they loved, they had the house they wanted in the location they wanted and they were happy.
When asked what they like most about their home they both say: “initially, the plan and size.
(It’s 2 bedrooms, plus multi-purpose room, 2 bathroom, big laundry, spacious open plan kitchen, dining and lounge, with 3 outdoor living areas and double lock up garage).
They said: “and it faces the right way for all seasons and we can see the rainforest from every window ”.
Another point which makes a big difference to them is that: “the roads through Natures Edge are normal road width.
Some of the places we visited were cramped and narrower and you have little room to back out your car”.
So is this your last home?
“Definitely, why should we move, it is too beautiful, so quiet, lovely breezes, the birds and the rainforest.
Our pet dog Sandy whilst missing the 1/2 acre to run around, having been with Norm and Patricia for 8 years, also loves watching the activity.
It’s an easy walk to the local shops and we love the security and friendships we have made – we love it here.
